Government Sanctions Construction of Munambam Bridge in Kasaragod

The government has sanctioned the construction of the Munambam Bridge in Uduma, Kasaragod district, with an administrative grant of Rs 1770 lakh from the Public Works Department. This bridge will connect the Chemmanad and Bedadka panchayats in Uduma constituency, crossing the bifurcation of the Chandragiri River.

Currently, the region relies on a pedestrian-only suspension bridge. The new Munambam Bridge will provide a vital road link, easing access between the hilly areas of the district and the district headquarters. Presently, people from Chemmanad and Bedadka must travel to Kasaragod via the Erinhipuzha and Karicheri bridges, which are longer and less direct routes.

Once completed, the Munambam Bridge will significantly reduce travel time. The 28-kilometer journey from Kasaragod to Kundamkuzhy via the National Highway will be cut in half, with travelers able to reach Chattanchal in just 2 kilometers, instead of the current 18-kilometer detour. This will improve connectivity not only to Kasaragod but also to local areas like Munnad, Kuttikol, Panathur, and Bandadka.

Additionally, the bridge will provide easier access to major tourist destinations in the district, including Ranipuram and Bekal. The topography of the Munambam area, combined with the new bridge, holds the potential to develop into a promising tourist hub, boosting both regional development and tourism.
