Mini Anganwadis in the state to be upgraded as Main Anganwadis

In a significant move aimed at providing comprehensive child care and development services across the state, the Kerala government has issued an order in the elevation of all mini Anganwadis to main Anganwadis. This decision comes in response to the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development's directive to surrender mini Anganwadis that cannot be converted into main ones.

Recognizing the vital role these centers play in providing supplementary nutrition, early childhood care, and education, as all these are located in backward regions, the state government has taken measures to upgrade all existing mini Anganwadis. Kerala currently has 33,115 Anganwadis, many of which serve over a thousand beneficiaries. Mini Anganwadis were sanctioned on the basis of population before 2010. Most of these have more than a thousand beneficiaries in their field of operation. It is in this context that central permission has been sought to upgrade all the 129 mini Anganwadis in the state to main Anganwadis.

With the upgradation, these Anganwadis will get the services of helpers in addition to workers, and the work will become more efficient. Wages of employees will also increase. The Finance Department had earlier approved the project at a cost of Rs 1.14 crore.  https://document.kerala.gov.in/documents/governmentorders/govtorder0108202409:55:28.pdf
