Kerala Government Extends Welfare Schemes to Allied Workers in Fishing Sector

In a big relief to the fishing community in Kerala, the government has issued a new order accepting their long-standing demand. The 6 welfare schemes implemented by the Kerala Fishermen's Welfare Fund Board for fishermen will now be extended to allied workers. This decision will bring significant changes in the lives of thousands of allied workers engaged in the fishing sector.

In case of death due to causes other than an accident while on duty, the dependents will receive financial assistance of Rs. 1,00,000. Financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 will be granted for the marriage of daughters of allied workers (up to two girls). An amount of Rs. 2,000 will be provided to meet expenses related to post-death ceremonies. If an allied worker is temporarily unable to work due to an accident, they will be eligible for Rs. 500 as assistance.

In exceptional circumstances, up to Rs. 5,000 will be available from the Chairman's Relief Fund. Allied workers who win in sports competitions will receive an incentive of up to Rs. 10,000.

The order also mentions that the Kerala Fishermen's Welfare Fund Board will bear an additional financial burden of Rs. 92.25 lakh annually to implement these schemes. By extending these schemes to allied workers, the government is ensuring the overall upliftment and financial security of the fishing community.
