Kerala Expands Anganwadi Services with Creche Units

The State Women and Child Development Department is implementing the Anganwadi-cum-Crèche system to provide a safe and supportive environment for the children of working parents. A total of 304 Anganwadi-cum-Crèche units will be established across the state.

The primary goal of the project is to create a secure environment for children aged six and under. The units, established under the 'Palna' scheme and supported by central and state funding, have the potential to provide employment opportunities and financial independence for parents, particularly women.

The Anganwadi-cum-Crèche system will be introduced alongside existing main Anganwadis in local bodies or at alternative locations where space is available. In the initial phase, the units will primarily be launched in urban areas to ensure there are enough crèche workers and helpers. The department aims to expand the program to other regions in the future. The crèche units will be equipped with adequate human resources, essential materials and equipment, child safety measures, a kid-friendly environment, and nutritious food.
